The shortlist is out for this year’s Grierson Awards, and we’re happy to see a few familiar names inside.

Most excitingly, our 2017 MA Ethnographic & Documentary Film graduate Paul Zhou is shortlisted in the Best Student Documentary category for his graduate film, China In Ethiopia. Paul recently won the One World Media Student Award for the film, and we expect his success to continue.

In the Grierson Best Documentary Short category, Matt Houghton is shortlisted for his film Landline, which screens at OCDF 2018 in the Shorts: Separations programme, and is nominated for the Best UK Short Award at the festival also.

Also, Lucy Cohen, who teaches a new course ‘Documenting Life on Film‘ at the Open City Docs School this Autumn, is shortlisted twice for her terrific feature film Kingdom of Us – in the Best Single Documentary – Domestic category and in the Best Cinema Documentary category.
