News: Open City Documentary Festival 2019 Full Programme On Sale

The full programme for Open City Documentary Festival 2019 is now online and on-sale, with all events and sessions online on our new look website.

The 2019 festival takes place from 4th – 10th September 2019. Through 70 films15cross-media projects, and 5 audio documentaries, it will celebrate the art of non-fiction across all forms and modes. Of the directors presenting new work in the 2019 film programme, 53% are female-identified.

Opening Night is Alice Riff’s Elections (2018, Brazil), whilst Closing Night will be Kavich Neang’s Last Night I Saw You Smiling (2019, Cambodia, France).

Our ‘In Focus’ directors for 2019 are Zhao Liang and Naomi Kawase, whilst special events this year include Brainbows, a unique A/V performance from artist-filmmaker Rainer Kohlberger, a walking tour of the City of London’s Ring of Steel led by researcher Henrietta Williams, audio events with The Whickers and Analogue Foundation, as well as ‘Presented By’ selections from artist Laura Grace Ford and musician Shabaka Hutchings – and a party curated by Anu.

The industry programme includes sessions with Mila Turajlić, Sruthi Pinnamaneni, and Sayre Quevedo,  as well as partners such as World Records, Today in Focus, and In The Dark Radio.

Our Expanded Realities exhibition at the Festival Hub will host new installations from artists including Tamara ShogaoluCalum BowdenUniversal Everything and Soft Bodies, whilst the Symposium will return to Digital Catapult with a soon to be announced lineup of speakers and.
