Long Visions: developing an artist’s feature documentary

11:00AM
Thu 08 May
Rich Mix (The Studio),

Join BFI Doc Society and artist filmmaker Rhea Storr for an open conversation about Rhea’s new moving image installation work Subjects of State, Labours of Love and her current path to developing her feature-length film Freedom Dreaming. We will discuss the production processes and interconnectedness of the two works, as well as wider approaches in Rhea’s practice. This will be an extended conversation with opportunity for attendees to ask questions and participate.

Rhea Storr is a filmmaker and visual artist of British/Bahamian descent. Her films explore Caribbean diaspora in the UK and show the complexities of Black British identities not previously seen on screen. Her new installation Subjects of State, Labours of Love is a portrait of Caribbean Associations in 1980s Wolverhampton to the present day, and Sheffield African and Caribbean Community Association, SADACCA. Her feature-in-development Freedom Dreaming was a selected project for Berlinale Talents Doc Station 2024.

This conversation will be hosted by Luke Moody, Head of the BFI Doc Society Fund. The BFI Doc Society Features Fund supports independent non-fiction films and immersive projects from UK filmmakers and producers, intended for theatrical release and prioritising expansive, director-led storytelling. The Fund is made possible through National Lottery funding.
