Last Movies traces cinema history through an unusual and speculative lens: the final films watched by cultural and political figures before their deaths. Drawing on fragments of archival material, conjecture, and cinematic memory, the film assembles a constellation of encounters between spectatorship and mortality. Built as a collage of images, notes, documents, and extracts from these last films, Last Movies drags us back into what icons once watched and will never watch again.

A tribute to chance, coincidence, and misalignment, the film treats death as the one certainty we all share. A collection of final encounters with cinema, assembled from pieces, annotations, and interruptions. We will all have a last movie.

The project began as a book by Stanley Schtinter, published by Tenement Press in 2023, before later taking film form.
