I Remember the Crows + Q&A
Gustavo Vinagre was born in Brazil. He studied Cinema at the EICTV (Cuba), and directed the short films Filme para poeta cego, Nova Dubai, La llamada and more.
Gustavo Vinagre’s breathtaking non-fiction chamber piece takes the form of an extended interview with his long-time friend and collaborator, Julia Katharine, a Japanese-Brazilian trans actress-filmmaker. Veering between performative and confessional, constantly self-aware and thought-provoking, Julia’s monologue covers broad ground, delving into her childhood, relationships, hopes and desires whilst referring frequently to the films she’s seen that have come to inform her identity. Taking its cues from Shirley Clarke’s Portrait of Jason and Jean Eustache’s Numéro Zero, I Remember the Crows unfolds over the course of one remarkable night as, fuelled by insomnia and white wine, Julia tells her life story.
+ Q&A with director Gustavo Vinagre. This is a UK Premiere.
