One by one, front and back, a filmmaker shares the badge collection of her late grandfather, in a tactile and intimate showcase of the relics of solidarity and organising. Badges of disparate yet intersecting causes, movements and figures unearth a genealogy of radical post- and de-colonial movements, in which synapses, curiosities and unanswered questions abound.
An Incomplete Calendar

In 1980, the Concert Choir of the Central University of Venezuela recorded Rhymes and Songs for OPEC, an album of folk songs from the states comprising the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, in commemoration of OPEC’s 20th anniversary. Proceeding from this remarkable gesture of cultural solidarity among non-aligned nations, An Incomplete Calendar interweaves forgotten songs with an astonishing archival record to tell a story of oil not as a commodity for neoliberal domination, but rather a medium for leverage in the liberation struggle in Palestine and the creation of Pan-Arab and greater Global South solidarity.
A culmination of over six years of archival research, this film is a cartography of the dreamworld of decolonisation, of competing and contrasting political imaginaries, and utopian promises still to be realised.
Followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
The UK premiere of An Incomplete Calendar is co-presented with Alchemy Film & Arts.
