Assembly was an annual development lab for creative documentaries organised by Open City Documentary Festival. Assembly is no longer taking applications, but please subscribe to our newsletter to be first to hear about our opportunities.
The programme was a project-based intensive workshop for international filmmakers working on their first or second feature, followed by a closed pitch for £10,000 development funding. Participants also attended screenings, talks and networking events as part of Open City Documentary Festival.
Assembly created a space for filmmakers to develop and strengthen their projects in order to support emerging voices in non-fiction storytelling, and was supported by UCL in 2019 and 2020.
The participants of the 2019 edition can be found here, and testimonials about their experience are here. The winner of Assembly 2019 was Miko Revereza with his project Nowhere Near. The participants for Assembly 2020 can be seen here. The winner of Assembly 2020 was Gabriela Pena for Here, The Silence is Heard.
