Throughout history, documentary filmmaking has had a complicated relationship with colonialism and has often been accused of perpetuating and upholding the legacies of imperialism. This session will bring together artists and filmmakers who confront, challenge and repurpose the colonial gaze in their work to discuss how unsettling colonial narratives has offered new ways of engaging with non-fiction image making in a post-colonial context. The session will be hosted by Fatimah Tobing Rony and speakers include Onyeka Igwe, Ephraim Asili and Laura Huertas Millán.
