No Data Plan + Q&A
“Mama has two phone numbers. We do not talk about immigration on her Obama phone. For that we use the other number with no data plan.” In his accomplished first feature, undocumented filmmaker Miko Revereza depicts a train journey he took across America last year. Utilising a potent mix of discreet recordings, sound design, on-screen subtitles and Instagram stories, the film successfully reflects its maker’s lived experience, but also that of the millions of other marginalised people whose every movement is similarly imperilled. Both scintillating observational study and politically charged personal documentary, No Data Plan is a travelogue of an altogether different kind.
London Premiere
Followed by a Q&A with director Miko Revereza, hosted by May Adadol Ingawanij, a writer, curator and teacher. She is Professor of Cinematic Arts at the University of Westminster and Co-director of the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media.

In 2007, Oklahoma passed a bill making it a felony to give someone without papers a job, a ride, or a place to stay overnight in your home. The law was designed to scare undocumented immigrants, and it did. But in Tulsa, a mostly Mexican Catholic congregation also saw it as an opportunity: they imported a statue of the patron saint of immigrants to be a symbol of hope. Voices in Dear Santo Toribio include Father Tim Davison, Juan Miret, Simon Navarro, and Josephine Olmos.
