Audio Masterclass: The Other Latif

Latif Nasser will be in conversation with Cristal Duhaime to talk about finding stories, the research process and weaving the personal with the political using The Other Latif as a starting point. They will also be joined by Suzie Lechtenberg, one of the producers of The Other Latif, and Sarah Geis to speak about her piece produced for Love Me, ‘To My Heart. Latif Nasser is Director of Research at the award-winning New York Public Radio show Radiolab, where he has done stories on everything from snowflake photography to medieval robots to a polar bear who liked to have sex with grizzly bears. Earlier this year, he hosted the miniseries The Other Latif, about his Moroccan namesake who happens to be Detainee 244 at Guantanamo Bay. In addition to his work in audio, Latif is the host and executive producer for the Netflix science documentary series Connected. He has also given two TED talks, and written for the Boston Globe Ideas section. He has a PhD from Harvard’s History of Science department.

Suzie Lechtenberg is the Executive Producer of Radiolab. In 2016, Lechtenberg co-created Radiolab’s beloved spinoff show about the Supreme Court, More Perfect.

Sarah Geis is an independent producer, editor, and teacher in Chicago. Her BBC Radio 4 documentary, The Art of Now: Guantanamo, received the 2018 Whicker’s audio prize. She is the keeper of Audio Playground, a site for low-stakes, high-risk audio doodles. She recently worked on the team of Somebody, a podcast about police accountability from the Invisible Institute and the Intercept.

The session will be hosted by Cristal Duhaime, the award-winning co-creator of Love Me, a documentary podcast about the messiness of human connection, and Senior Producer of CBC’s queer culture talk show Chosen Family.
