The third feature-length documentary by brothers Bill and Turner Ross, Western is an intimate portrait of two neighbouring towns situated on opposite sides of the Texas-Mexico border. Though they have long lived in tranquillity, the communities of Eagle Pass, Texas and Piedras Negras, Mexico find themselves increasingly threatened by the violence of drug cartels. With lyrical imagery and immersive observations of the everyday lives of the town residents, the film offers a compassionate account of the human cost of violence.
